Nietzsche's "Paw-Some" 2012 Calendar

Safe Haven Animal Shelter gladly collected a cheque for $2895.20 on January 6th from The Book Man!  Thank you to every single person who supported this incredible project; those that bought calendars, the artists who contributed their time and talent, Sunrise Printing for offsetting some of the printing costs, the graphic designers (Emily Hamel and Sarah Sovereign) for putting together the final products - together, we created POSTIVE CHANGE in our world while having fun!  What could be better?!

Here's the story behind the success!

When we put a call out to the talented community of Chilliwack for artistic submissions for a Nietzsche calendar, we had no idea how much beautiful art would make its way to The Book Man!  These unique and beautiful submissions were lovingly been compiled into a calendar with each month starring the handsome bookstore cat himself!  We also released four unique limited edition bookmarks (50 of each) featuring art from his calendar. The intention was to donate all proceeds from the sale to Safe Haven Animal Shelter to help them in their invaluable work in resucing and finding homes for felines in need of help.

The Progress did a beautiful article on the calendar, which is in our archives HERE!

As soon as word began to spread, people started coming in to pick up their calendar.  Many people bought ALL four bookmarks AND a calendar.  We sold out of our first run of 100 calendars in just a few days, and quickly reprinted another 150, and sold 120 of those over the next few weeks.  The bookmarks sold fast and furiously, each "paw-to-graphed" with a custom made stamp of Nietzsche's paw.  People shared their incredible stories of their own animals, how Safe Haven had touched their lives, and we shared in their excitement in supporting a wonderful cause.

January 6th marked the completion of our project.  Sales after costs totalled $2895.20, and when Ena of Safe Haven Animal Shelter came to pick up her cheque, our manager proudly presented it to her.  There is NO feeling in the world like the one that comes from giving to a wonderful cause; tears of sorrow and joy all mixed into one pricked the eyes of many people involved in this cause, and we are HONOURED to have been the driving force behind it.  Thank you, Sir Nietzsche for your gentle and giving ways; you truly inspire greatness!
