What book do you like recommending the most, and why?

'Letters to a Young Poet' by Rainer Maria Rilke

First of all, I’m surprised at the amount of people who DON’T know about this book. This book allows you to not have to have everything planned out. It touches on love and loneliness and companionship and talks about things that we sometimes think aren’t worth our time and takes them as seriously as they need to be taken.

‘I beg you…to have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked rooms or books written in a very foreign language. Don’t search for the answers, which could not be given you now, because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps then, someday far in the future, you will gradually, without ever noticing it, live your way into the answer…’

-- Rainer Maria Rilke

What gives your life the most meaning?

Connection

What does reading mean to you?

Reading is not only a way to escape, but to be introduced to new ideas that you wouldn’t have necessarily let in if you hadn’t gotten to know a character or voice that you’ve learnt to trust and respect; a way to expand your perspective. It’s also a way of finding like-minded people and realizing that you’re not as alone as you may have thought.

“The best moments in reading are when you come across something – a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things – that you’d thought special, particular to you. And here it is, set down by someone else, a person you’ve never met, maybe even someone long dead. And it’s as if a hand has come out, and taken yours.”

— The History Boys

What animal would you say best describes yourself, and why?

A pony. They’re a little less serious than a horse. I also really like apples.

Would you rather watch Monty Python or Wheel of Fortune for the rest of your life, and why?

JEOPARDY. Because I love learning and feeling smart when I get the answers.

If you had to pick one word to describe yourself, what would it be?

Candid, although one of my closest friends said that I should pick loyal.
